GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Crime Victim Services division of the Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Information Specialist whose work will involve demanding work in the Central Texas Region of the Crime Victim Services Division headquartered in Austin. Work involves implementing professional training programs for criminal justice professionals, victim advocates, the medical community and interested citizens. Responsibilities also will include responding to victims and claimants in preparing and understanding the Crime Victimand#8217;s Compensation applications and benefits.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits (https://ers.texas.gov/Benefits-at-a-Glance) along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSCoordinates the planning for and the provision of training to external agencies and staff Provides instruction at public speaking events on Crime Victimsand#8217; Compensation and other victim related issues to internal and external groups and agencies Assists with researching and responding to questions from victims, victim advocacy groups, prosecutorand#8217;s offices, law enforcement agencies and other state and federal offices Assists in designing and preparing curriculum for Crime Victimsand#8217; Compensation training for internal employees, prosecutorand#8217;s offices, law enforcement, providers of medical services and other victim assistance groups Assists with interagency collaboration and cooperative efforts to obtain offense reports and other documentation to expedite compensation claims processing Drafts internal and external materials and publications such as brochures, posters and training manuals and Crime Victimsand#8217; Compensation articles for publication Maintains and updates regional contact phone and mailing lists to ensure the accurate dissemination of information Designs and prepares multi-media presentations such as video training presentations and PC based training programs Performs related work as assigned Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalent Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: Public relations, journalism, advertising, communications, business, or criminal justice Experience: Six years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Public relations, journalism, advertising, communications, business, or criminal justice Extensive experience in media relations or outreach and training programs Extensive knowledge of the Texas victim service delivery system Proficient in using training related equipment and software programs, such as Power Point Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines Skill in effective oral and written communication Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment Ability to provide excellent customer service Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave) Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
